SWIM aviation safety

Synkzone part of the solution

SWIM is the new standard in aviation safety. A Swedish consortium, which includes Synkzone, has been awarded the contract to build the infrastructure when Qatar increases its air traffic capacity ahead of the 2022 Soccer World Cup.

On April 9, 2020, Qatar’s civil aviation authority signed a contract with the Swedish company Independent Business Group (IBG). IBG, together with ten Swedish companies – including Synkzone – will provide management services to increase capacity in Qatar’s airspace. The assignment also includes helping Doha’s Hamad International Airport to meet the expected increase in aircraft and aircraft movements.

SWIM – a new standard in aviation safety

SWIM aviation safety is a new standard for air traffic workflows. Qatar is investing in the new aviation information management standard SWIM (System Wide Information Management) to meet the requirements for hosting the Soccer World Cup in Qatar in 2022. There will be a large influx of visitors to Qatar in connection with the championship, thus the need to develop the underlying infrastructure in the airspace and at Doha airport.

Synkzone collaborating with LFV and Swedavia

Synkzone’s participation in the Qatar project is a continuation of the research and development cooperation Synkzone has had for several years with the Swedish Civil Aviation Authority (Luftfartsverket (LFV)) and the state-owned company Swedavia, which runs the ten biggest airports in Sweden.

The purpose of this collaboration has been to develop secure, digital information exchange solutions based on the new SWIM standard. The SWIM project has been developed within the framework of the EU project SESAR JU. This concept is now a regulatory requirement to be introduced in civil aviation in many parts of the world.

SWIM – a new way of working with aviation safety

SWIM is a new way of working with aviation safety. It is a paradigm shift in how information will be handled and exchanged in the Air Traffic Management (ATM) system in the future.

The purpose of the SWIM concept is to provide the right ATM information to the right user at the right time. This will happen with the help of secure digital services. SWIM enables aircraft, airports, air traffic controllers, flow managers, weather services and others to get a better picture of the current situation, to cooperate better and to make informed decisions.

From now until 2022, Synkzone will be part of the Qatar-IBG project by contributing both expertise and proprietary product solutions in the security area.
